Design Manager - Xtramix Concrete Solutions - Abu Dhabi

Job Description
Responsible for the overall design of the precast elements of the plant Ensure projects are progressed through the stages of: Opportunity, Tender and Contract; by: Opportunity a) Interrogating project arrangements to establish the roles and design responsibilities of consultants, clients and the design Team b) Challenging the design to minimise waste, maximize value and reduce risk c) Implementing agreed processes for the production, control and distribution of design information at different project stages d) Ensuring regular progress reporting of the design, covering production, coordination and interfaces, against a timeline e) Ensuring design information is thoroughly reviewed for: build ability, safety and maintainability, 'completeness' & technical suitability before use f) To manage the production and issue of working drawings and technical information g) To manage the design process h) Provide responses to pre-qualification requirements Tendering a) Identify key design issues & responsibilities from bid documents b) Undertake technical review of bid documents and establish 'completeness' of design information therein. Determine design risks and the type and extent of any additional inputs required c) Establish required design deliverables. As appropriate: interview and obtain fee quotations to undertake defined design roles. Create a Design Responsibilities matrix d) Review design with design team and LOR team to identify opportunities for innovation and value engineering e) Review with estimating function and design team various: component, specification, system, material options and subcontract tender returns to establish bid quality and completeness f) Establish requirements for Tender return and assist Bid Manager to collate all necessary drawings, specifications, Contractors Proposals, programmes, methodology and other necessary item. Contract Execution a) Review with the team, the roles and responsibilities of the consultants and specialists. Confirm the scope of services required and formalise the Design Responsibilities matrix b) Contribute to the production of the Design and Procurement Programme by the planning and resourcing function. Identify and agree the design deliverables required and ensure effective processes are in place for reporting design progress c) Ensure information flow, including RFIs/TQs is maintained to all relevant parties and that comments / approvals are received and returned to document / query originator within the specified comments / approval periods. Identify co-ordination issues and package interfaces and ensure each party is amending their work as the design progresses d) Contribute to the procurement process, including scope definitions, and agree and expedite the design team's package deliverables. Review returns for compliance, build ability, quality and value engineering opportunities e) Review design information before it is issued to ensure compliance with Contract and Statutory requirements. Ensure appropriate, timely arrangements for obtaining Client, statutory approvals (incl. discharge) and other necessary approvals with retention by relevant documentation f) Identify critical quality and tolerance issues to the erection managers as installation progresses g) Expedite designers and clients contributions to the project Health & Safety file / Operation & Maintenance Manuals h) Submit half yearly & Yearly budget to the superior i) Provide updated status reports to the Operations Manager

Profile

1. Must be proficient with Auto CAD 2004 or later version. 2. Knowledge of R.C.C. 3. Knowledge of Architectural is an advantage. 4. Experience or knowledge of Microstation is an advantage. 5. Knowledge of precast is a must. 6. Ability to swiftly appraise all types of information for completeness 7. Good communication skills (spoken and written) 8. Reasoning and problem solving skills with ability to think laterally 9. Experience in CAD, Document Control & Planning systems 10. Technical understanding of design and specification issues 11. Thorough knowledge of the design and construction process. Good Experience In areas of production and erection works especially of the precast products 12. Skills in Drawing / Designing / Calculating / checking specifications & drawings / Collecting Information 13. Knowledge of international standards such ACI, PCI, BSI, ASTM and local regulations 10 - 12 years of experience of which the last 6-8 years should have worked in the same role in precast industry Masters in Science 10 years experience in the design of reinforced concrete and structural steel in precast industry. Of which 3-5 years in senior position Degree in Civil Engineering
